As a STEM Instructor, it is always exciting to introduce new and engaging topics to my learners. Recently, I had the opportunity to teach a lesson on the introduction to AI to a group of lower learners. I was unsure of how they would respond, but the experience ended up being eye-opening for both myself and the students.

To start the lesson, I began by explaining the basics of AI, including what it is and how it is used in our daily lives. I also touched on the different types of AI, such as machine learning and deep learning. The students were fascinated by the concept of machines being able to “think” and “learn” on their own.

Next, I showed them a few examples of AI in action, such as self-driving cars, chatbots and AI-powered assistants like Siri and Alexa. The students were amazed by these examples and had many questions about how they worked.

To further engage the students, I had them work on a hands-on activity where they programmed a simple AI for Object Detection using Pictoblox. They worked in groups and created simple AI program that could scan an image and detect the class of objects as well as give a count of the objects identified. The students were thrilled to see their programs in action and were excited to share their creations.

Throughout the lesson, I could see the students’ interest and engagement in the topic growing. They were asking thoughtful and funny questions and were eager to learn more. It was truly an eye-opening experience for me to see how easily lower learners can grasp complex concepts when they are presented in an interactive and engaging way.

In conclusion, teaching the introduction to AI to lower learners was a great experience. It was an opportunity to introduce them to a new and exciting topic, and it was rewarding to see their engagement and interest in the subject. The students learned about the basics of AI, its different types, and how it is being used in the world around them. They also had a chance to apply their learning through a hands-on activity, which helped to solidify their understanding of the concepts. Overall, it was a successful lesson, and I look forward to teaching more about AI in the future.
